(1758-1793)
   political figure
   Born in Bordeaux, where he served as an attorney for the Parlement, Armand Gensonné, during the revolution of 1789, was one of the principal leaders of the girondins and sat in the Legislative Assembly, where he helped to pass the vote against the émigré brothers of King louis XVI and the one for a declaration of war on Austria (April 1792). In the Convention, he proved to be one of the most vehement adversaries of the montagnards. After the elimination of the girondin leaders in the Convention during the terror (June 1793), Gensonné was arrested, condemned to death, and executed.
